I don't understand why the MB would pay the ticket. Yes, I understand that some people think this is not a big deal. I personally think any traffic violation with my kids in the car is a huge red flag. If she were involved in an accident that wasn't her fault while driving my kids, of course I would totally handle it. But a moving violation? No way I would be paying for the ticket. That's totally within her control. Don't want to be held responsible for driving perfectly? Then don't accept a nanny job that requires driving children.

Getting nailed by a red light camera for doing the rolling stop doesn't entail a lack of driving skills, or even someone who is a danger to the kids. You're completely overreacting, as this happens to almost everyone at some point. But its nice to know that you're perfect in every way.

I'm glad you think I'm perfect, that is so sweet of you!

If this is something she got caught with, who knows how she is driving with the children when she isn't being caught by cameras.

Op here. Everyone is so divided on this! For PP, since it was a camera violation, there are no points. The ticket came to DH (car is registered to him), and legally he is responsible for paying.

I'll email her over the weekend about the ticket and tell her we'll pay it this time but she'll be responsible if it happens again. If she offers to pay, I'll suggest we split the cost. I don't want to stick her with the whole thing at the holidays- she pieces together a few part time jobs (so no paid time off) and I suspect she is anxious about money at the holidays. If it were speeding or blowing through a red light, it might be a different story, but I don't see rolling a right turn on red at a quiet intersection as a major safety concern.

Thanks for all the feedback!

+1 I am truly puzzled as to why you would pay someone else fine. She broke the law, she should pay. It doesn't matter whose car she was driving.

I agree.
I'm a nanny and I've rolled through and been caught on a red light camera (in my own car).
Plus, if you pay it aren't you getting the point on your driving record?

Post 11/26/2013 15:33     Subject: Babysitter got red light ticket in our car

Our one day a week sitter got a ticket in our car for making a right turn on a red light without stopping completely. I know exactly where it happened, and it was an intersection where I'm sure I don't usually come to a complete stop. So, I'm not concerned about the fact that she got the ticket, but just wondering how to handle it.

Do we pay the ticket? I think we do, since she got in our car, taking our child to an activity.

Is it ok to mention it to her? She goes to this area often with the children, so I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. What is the best way to mention it? Because of the holiday, I won't see her again until late next week. Should I send her an email or just wait to mention it next week?

Thanks!
