The fact that you're stupid enough to work for that, does not make it an appropriate wage. If you truly have 12 years of experience, speak fluent English, and have a college degree, you should be making at least $40K/year. If not, you are seriously undervaluing yourself. Your degree was a waste of money, if you're only going to charge $10/hour.

A high school degree isn't the ONLY requirement. If that's the only requirement you have for your nannies that's really very sad. Most people want a nanny with the high school degree, some level of experience, various safety certifications, the ability to demonstrate competence as an employee (references that will reccomend you), etc. I'm sure you're the same elitist bitch trying to convince everyone that no nanny has ever gone to college and therefore should be happy with whatever scraps you throw her way. Just stop trying to degrade other people, and go figure out why your life is so so sad.

Of course most of those jobs require certain skills, attributes, and training, but then so do most nanny jobs for any parent who gives a shit about their kid. No one just grabs the first person off the street who managed to stumble through high school.

They will find someone but they probably won't get everything they want for that rate. She may not speak great English, she may not have tons of experience, she may not be a stellar employee, or she may simply need a job and will bail ASAP. Hopefully who ever they get quickly realizes how grossly underpaid they are, or that this family has a hell of a time finding someone and has to readjust their expectations. Its funny that PPs claim OP is entitled because she thinks $11/hour is below her. You know nothing about her. It very well may be below her. I'm sure you wouldn't work for $11/hour. What IS entitled is thinking you should get the most expensive luxury childcare for your precious snowflake, but you shouldn't have to pay what everyone else pays.

I would say, no, it's not a joke. Minimum wage in Maryland is $7.25, and that's what you'll get doing much harder labor at McDonald's. The Nanny's duties include tending to our newborn daughter's total well being in a loving, fun, and nurturing fashion. You should be:
