It's unclear whether you are asking about share rates or general nanny rates for one child.

If you are looking at general nanny rates, $14-16/hour will get you very good, qualified candidates. There is no reason to pay over $17/hr for one infant in Arlington. Some of the nannies here like to try and inflate rates all the time.

PPs who recommend guaranteed hours are right, as well as the importance of paying OT if you need it. Paying OT is the law.

I just hired a nanny with 10 years of experience in ARL for 16/hr for one infant. She doesn't drive and we live very close to metro and bus. We will be her third family in ARL (6 of her 10 years are here).

Cost also depends on how many hours you need. Some nannies would accept a lower base hourly rate if the job guaranteed a certain number of overtime hours. For example.

40 hour week 40 * 17 = 680

45 hour week 40 * 15 = 600 5 * 22.50 = 112.50
(Total being 712.50)

If you want an inexperienced nanny, you could get one for under $15 an hour, mid range nanny is going to be around $15-17 an hour. If you want someone who has a lot of experience, and/or education, you are looking at $17-22 an hour. If your nanny works more than 40 hours a week, you also have to pay overtime. You also have to think about what benefits you want to give to the person. Sick days, vacation, holidays, do you give health insurance or pay part of it, car to use while nanny is taking care of child, etc..etc..

If your expectations are standard and you're looking for full time hours, you will find lots of quality applicants at $15 per hour with guaranteed hours, meaning the nanny gets paid the same amount for 52 weeks a year, whether you use her or not. Nannies with more than five years experience may want $17-20, but not many jobs pay that for a single infant. Hence, the more experienced nannies often work for larger families.

We are expecting next month, and had been planning to use a nannyshare. But the schedules have been difficult to work out, so we are trying to figure out what the average charges (or ranges) are for nannies caring for one infant. We are in Arlington.
