9.05 for your information I am educated the parents told me to come on here and ask other nannies for ideas I don't understand who you think you are speaking to me like that i simply asked a question to get ideas if you have snarky remarks then why respond if it makes you feel good about your self to put other people down then maybe your the one who shouldn't be taking care of children. You should pick up a self help book

MAYBE SHE ISN'T A GREAT NANNY. MAYBE IF YOU SHARED SOME IDEAS SHE WOULD GET BETTER. Why should everyone who posts have to be an expert on everything? I didn't know crap when I started nannying but luckily everyone around me gave me tips and tricks, and I picked up more with experience.

OP might be looking for specific locations. Indoor playgrounds, outside playgrounds. If you had asked me 3 years ago where the playgrounds nearby were I could maybe name one. Now I could tell you 6 outside playgrounds, 5 indoor ones, as well as a handful of libraries and bookstores with story time.

Or maybe she isn't a "professional" nanny but loves her charge and wants to do right by him/her. Asking experienced nannies for advice and ideas is exactly the route to becoming a professional nanny, OP, don't let anyone make you feel bad. (Sorry I can't help, not in DC)

I know this is going to be harsh, but here it is. If you really are a professional nanny, you already should know what to do with a six month old. This is the beginning of a really fun age and the fact that you have no clue what to do speaks volumes about you. Read some parenting books, take some classes. Educate yourself or find another job.

On Mondays, we buy groceries in the morning, then I cook her solid foods for the week during her naps, so we stick around the house/neighborhood for playtime. We have one baby class a week, up to 3 storytimes at the library or book store (but we usually only get to one of them--she's been off schedule a lot), a playspace, swinging at the park, etc.

Can you drive or are you limited to walking/metro?
Honestly, my MB doesn't mind if I run errands with my charge. It's fantastic! On cold days we'll go to the bookstore, target, the bank. Any errands I need to do. We still get in loads of story time and baby appropriate activities, but it's great to be able to make a quick run to the store.

I care for a 7 mo old and an 18 mo old in a share and the baby still naps three times a day so to be honest we don't go out much which is a big change from what I am used to. We always go for a walk, even if it's just to get coffee or something like that, and there's a whole foods nearby that has story time on Thursday mornings. Beyond that, we stick close to home.

When my charges were 6 months we took walks almost every day (unless there was a blizzard), had one story time a week. Otherwise we played at home. 6 month old babies don't really need much more and any activities past this are more for you, not the babies. It's not the most exciting time ever but it's what's best for the baby.
