Thanks for giving me a good laugh. What exactly about 16:09's post said indentured servant? Was it that she wants an honest nanny or one that genuinely likes children? Or maybe it was that she wanted a nanny who could drive or is legal to work in the US. The ONLY thing on her list that I can imagine a decent nanny not wanting to do was the part about "willing to lend a hand" but even that I know many nannies willing do those things. It's just the lazy ones on DCUM who complain about it.

According to CNN, modern-day slavery is more widespread now than ever before in history. Mostly because it's now behind closed doors, in the name of live-in domestic workers who have few (if any), protected rights.

I bet you're right.

I bet you are a "nanny" who doesn't meet any of the criteria on the list.

Completely honest, none of the interview stuff.
I would love to hear/read some parents.

No offense, but as a 26 yr old with a degree, when writing anything, you should always capitalize your I's.

Just sayin'.......

I'll work on that....

MB here. Off the top of my head here is what I looked for when hiring a nanny (or what I value most about our current nanny):

- honesty/trustworthiness
- safety
- genuine affection for kids and desire to be a nanny (not just finding a paycheck - I think good nannies genuinely love kids)
- calm, unflappable, not a histrionic drama lover
- common sense
- reliability
- respect for parental choices and different parenting approaches
- ability to communicate well w/ me and my husband
- ability to gracefully manage grandparents and family dynamics
- willingness to lend a hand (it's not in the job description but every once in a while our nanny will clean the stove or sweep the floor or run a load of laundry for us. HUGE help and really builds a mutually supportive relationship)
- playfulness, creativity, sense of fun
- someone willing to foster healthy eating and sleeping habits
- someone with potty training experience
- ability to drive and reliable transportation
- legal to work in the US
- sense of humor
- maturity
- good judgment

Those are in no particular order - some are obviously more critical than others.

I'm not, i'm very happy with my current position!
Just wondering how to be better.
If it's such a turn off for you, i'm truly sorry!

Not to be rude OP, but if you're currently looking for a job, consider proof reading any and all communications. It is a huge turn off.
