Subject: have you ever hired a nanny without interviewing a bunch of people before making the decision?
Thanks for your thoughts. I"m going to use this person to babysit and help while I"m still on maternity leave. I will also interview driving nannies. I think fit is more important than driving b/c if we needed her to drive, she could just take a cab or bus to wherever we would need.
FWIW: She's not a girl. She's a full grown woman who's got 4 full-grown children.
I do appreciate the thoughts especially the person who said treat her like any other candidate. That's very important and easy to overlook when you hire someone you know.

I was the first and only candidate my last three employers interviewed. I was hired on the spot each time. I guess I make a good first impression lol

You don't know if she would be a good match for your family. Have you done a complete background search on her? You need to treat this girl like you would treat anyone else interviewing for the job. And yes, I would interview more people before deciding on someone. I don't know the ages of your children, but as they get older, you are going to want a nanny that drives. It makes life so much easier.

Meh, I was pretty much the first and only candidate my current bosses looked into before they hired me a little over a year ago (they told me so.... guess my CL add was pretty detailed, lol).
Why stress over searching for/interviewing a pool of candidates when you've already got a perfectly good option in front of you?

My neighbor has moved away and her nanny wants to be ours. They were all at my house recently and the nanny just point blank asked for us to hire her. There are lots of ups to this arrangement and only one down side that I can see so far (she doesn't drive and we are ok with that), but I feel kind of lazy for not doing a full-on search.
