As a former teacher let me tell you that odds are you won't have a break long enough to nanny. Our school finished the last week of June, began in mid-late August, and I had two weeks of PD during that time. Off topic but an FYI all the same!

Ideally, just another 3 years. I should be debt free and have a considerable amount of money saved. I would also be done with school and can devote my time to my new career. I thought about possibly doing it until I had children but I don't see myself marrying anytime soon. I would love to be a stay at home mother the first couple of years but I dunno if that will be possible since the husband and his career are just imaginary at the moment lol. So I guess I need to figure out how to do it on my own.

I'm with you OP.

I'm 31 and will probably nanny one more year before applying to grad school, just to save a bit more, but I sometimes thing about life choices and get uncertain. Grad school means my partner and I can't even think a out kids for another five+ years and although neither of us are sure we want them we aren't sure we DON'T either. Continuing to nanny would be a great solution if we decided to have kids, but if we don't I would feel very insecure about my long-term prospects.

So basically no idea

OP here. I do not have children. My partner and I just bought a house and both want children. He makes a enough to afford me the privilege of staying home to raise our future children. I'm just not sure what to do when the kids hit school age. I have options, but am afraid that not being in the field that I will have a VERY hard time getting into the field later in life. I could always stay home permanently, and I would love it, but it also makes me feel uneasy being dependent on another person in such a large way. Just wondering what others plans are as this is not a career for growth and typically not for long term plans.

Me? I am a nanny in my early 30's and love what I do. Plan to stay at home with my own kids then possibly take one of two career paths that I never started bc I fell in love with childcare. The future worries me a bit and I was just wondering how others feel.

You say you plan to SAH with your own kids. Do you have kids now? Are you married?

I'm planning to stay in my current very high paying job until they no longer need me and then go back to school. While my current job isn't horrible, I've just been feeling a bit burnt out. I'm 24 and have been a nanny since I was 19.

I'm 24, will nanny until I finish school/get pregnant. I have plans to start a business or two, and be at home with any children we have, at least while they are young. I don't ever see myself doing the typical 9-5 office bureaucrat thing. I'd rather be broke and happy than spend my life waiting for the weekend. No, I'm not worried about the future. My fiance has chosen a lucrative career path that happens to be something he loves, so we have enough money, and we live very simply and save. No debt (we both went to school on full scholarship), 1 car, minimal "stuff", cook our own food, etc.
