I don't have extra tasks aside from childcare. The baby takes 2 naps so I have 3 hours of downtown. I have lunch and then nap for about an hour and after that I read/study. I love my job and love that I don't have any chores Plus I am paid $21/hour. I am a graduate student and have often nannied for professor families. I've noticed that they don't expect any duties besides childcares. I don't even do the babies laundry.

During nap time I toy tidy, do my own thing like reading/computer and have a lunch break. I am fine with this because I am a childcare professional, not a housekeeper. Every nanny is different, and the best thing is to find what you're comfortable with. I worked with families who have totally loaded me with chores and I got burnt out and taken advantage of.

Call me what you will, but I make really good money and have a great situation. Also, my contract doesn't specify anything beyond keeping the kids alive. However my employers are over the moon when they come and the house is clean, dinner is ready, and they get to eat with and play with their kids before bed. Because they are so happy with me, I don't have half the problems you see brought up on here on a regular basis. My employers also don't flip on the off day, where none of the extras get done.

I don't understand why this MB always has to point out that she has a manny and not a nanny. Do you call a malle nurse a murse?

Aside from childcare, I have absolutely no other duties. I spend my 3 hours of downtown studying. I do not do the babies laundry or anything like that.

Most of you are maids who also take care of kids.

My duties are all childcare "related" but I prep kid meals, clean kid dishes and whatever happens to be in the sink, pump parts and bottles, clean and organize kids and nursery room (vacuum, sanitize, laundry, closets, etc.) I also clean the kids bathroom, because its mostly us that use it and I bath them in there and like to know its clean. I do a weekly grocery trip, and occasionally take them shopping for clothes/shoes.

Child's laundry, including stripping/changing bed sheets and changing table cover
Keeping the nursery clean and tidy, including vacuuming the carpet
Ensuring toys are picked up at the end of each day and sanitizing them after serious illnesses
Giving daily baths and trimming fingernails and toenails
Keeping the highchair area clean - including sweeping/wiping the floor beneath and washing the cover/seat when needed

And of course cleaning up any messes we make while I'm on duty.

Dishes-be that load/unload dishwasher, bottles, pumping supplies, etc.
Children's laundry including linens and towels
Keeping common areas and children's rooms clean
Vacuuming and sweeping as necessary
Occasional organization of toys and closets (go through wardrobes seasonally and as infants outgrow sizes/get rid of or store toys that are no longer age appropriate)
Common sense things- wipe dirty surfaces, take out full trash/recycling containers
