Thanks, everyone. As for question 4 postings up, don't really stay out all night and then go to work. I'm pretty committed to work, so not really my thing.

When does your household usually go to sleep? May be she is just doesn't want to wake everyone by coming in late, so she just chooses to stay out the whole night.

She probably has a boyfriend and is being respectful. My only other thought would be that she feels that when she is there is always working even when she is technically off. Is her space part of the main house? Do the children go in her room or constantly seek her attention when she isn't working? She could just be setting boundaries passively or she could just have a very active social life.

OP, as long as she shows up on time on her scheduled day and does a great job w/your children, then what she does in her spare time should have no bearing on you.

She is young. At her age, she is enjoying doing things that young girls do. Young girls can stay out, yet have the energy to work a full day on little rest the night before.

If she is not showing up, or showing up looking hung~over or strung out, then yes, it most definitely would be an issue for me.

But if her extra curricular activities in no way affect her work performance, then let it be.

Remember:
She is your employee.....Not your child.

How many times did you stay out overnight and then go to work? Did your boss question you as long as you did your job? As long as she performs her job it is none of your business where she sleeps.

She probably just wants privacy. That alone is nothing to worry about.

Why should this bother you?

SUre. It's her private life. If she's doing her job well then what she does in her off hours is her business only.

I'd be grateful that she's staying out, rather than having to worry about who she might be bringing in.

She's probably just sleeping over at her boyfriend's house. As long as she is at work on time and performs her job well, what's the problem?

She's an adult an outside of work hours, live-in or not, her private life is her business. Be thankful she's being discreet and has an active social life!

Well if you don't have a rule in place, consider her staying out as an act of respect toward your family and your home. If she's performing her job well, she sounds like a keeper!

Our live-in nanny (age 24) does not always come home from a night out. Should that bother us? We didn't mind when she did it on the weekend, but she has started to do it doing the week now as well. Should it make a difference, as long as she's there on time to assume morning responsibilities? Thoughts?
