Yes, exactly 18:53. Sorry that I did not appropriately word my post after hearing about my nanny's critically injured family member. But I will no longer check this post or my e-mail. Instead of trying to network with other parents who might like to find a way to solve our mutual problems, I will go to an agency and take a chance on a temp nanny I get through them, who may not already have stable employment for any number of reasons unrelated to the shutdown. One thing I have learned about this forum is that no matter how much you try to do the right thing, some of the nannies who frequent this board are never satisfied. I offer to pay $22 an hour for a full-time job, that's not enough. I try to find a solution to other employers' problems and my temporary nanny need, I view nannies as slaves. Well done, certain DCUM nannies.

OP is looking for employers who are struggling to figure out how to pay their nanny/need to give their nanny some unpaid time off due to the shutdown. She's offering a networking solution so these employers could tell their nanny that although they aren't able to pay them until MB/DB goes back to work, they do have a lead on a temporary position to compensate for that lost income and would they be interested in speaking to the MB about the job.

Let's not crucify her for a casually-worded post, let's actually try to use our critical thinking abilities to get at what she MEANT.

And yes, I'm a nanny.

Employers may *ask* me anything they want.
If need be, we'll part ways. And your kid can have *another* new nanny.

Wtf are you talking about and what does that have to do with the OP, or her mistake in who makes personal employment decisions. A nanny's alleged immaturity does not give her employer the right to make personal decisions for her.

A nanny can't be furloughed. All of "nannydom" wasn't shut down. A nanny can get another job if her employers are furloughed. Just don't expect your nanny to wait and than be available when you need to work again.

Op find a temporary nanny thru an agency or online site. Do your research and interview properly. Agree with above nannies aren't a garden tool or extra chair you borrow from your neighbor.

Agreed. Absolutely no snark intended OP, but your post should have been directed at the furloughed nannies. They are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves.

Sorry - forgot to say we are in Chevy Chase.

Our nanny has a family emergency out of the country and had to leave unexpectedly. She is expected to return but we do not know when. She just arrived there and is on the way to the hospital, so this is a "real time" event that is evolving. The rest of her family, including her child, is here in the US, so we do expect she will return.

We need someone willing to work at least part-time from 3-8 pm (could be full-time 12-8 if open to household errands). We need someone who can drive, cook a healthy dinner for the kids, and is comfortable with older kids and a busy driving schedule. She also needs to be authorized to work in the US. Yes, it is a temp position but I am squeaky clean about those things.

If you are a furloughed fed looking to find a temporary home for your nanny, and you think she can do our job well, please e-mail me at chevy chase family (all one word) at gmail dot com. We will match all reasonable comp. If our nanny's emergency lasts longer than the shutdown, we understand you have first dibs.

I know there is an argument to be made that this should be in the in search of part of the forum, but I hope this is ok here since furloughed feds are hoping to hang on to their nannies!
