From what you wrote OP, it sounds like you have seen this new nanny w/your friend's children when your friend hasn't been around. If there are some traits that she has that are not too enduring at this stage, trust me....It will not improve over time.

Sounds like your friend needs to re-consider her decision.

While it would be ideal for her to re-hire the former nanny, if I were the former nanny, I would say "Screw you!!" to your friend after being fired for my weight.

That's just me though.

But to answer the question...Go right ahead...You need to let your friend know this new nanny is a doozy.

I would give it a few weeks but then tell your friend your views about the new nanny. This is for the kids' sake, not the mom's.

re: old nanny - may have been that nanny was not as active with kids as needed or that there are other issues going on that she does not want to tell you. Firing someone ONLY because they are fat after they work for you for 2 years just for appearances does not make any sense so give your friend the benefit of the doubt that she is not crazy and there may be things you do not know.

I wish for you friend all the things she so richly deserves and may they come soon and it spades. May she gain 100 lbs, lose her job, her DH divorces her because he met someone nice and he gets 100% custody of cbildren.

OP you really have no idea why she actually fired her, all you have is the information your neighbor has chosen to share with you. Keep your judgements to yourself unless you want to have a very uncomfortable relationship with said neighbor from now on.

Parents have the right to choose who cares for their children.

Did the nanny suddenly gain weight? She kept her for 2 years, if she was that superficial she would never have hired her to begin with. Maybe she really wasn't keeping up with her children

Yes, she absoloutely does. She's very a very proper mother and wife and has always wanted things to be ideal which I never disagreed until she let go of her longtime nanny because of weight issues. The grass definitely isn't greener in this case.

I have a neighbor who I have been good friends with for quite some time who just recently fired her nanny who had been caring for her two children for well over two years. She said it was because she was on the heavy side and "couldn't keep up with the children". She has already found a replacement nanny and after observing her these past few weeks I really believe my friend made a mistake. The new nanny is just distant, not engaging and pretty lazy in my opinion. To be honest, her old nanny (don't want to give out names for privacy reasons) was much more involved and someone I had grown to like over the past couple years. I know it's early on but first impressions are not good and I don't know if I should mind my own business or say something or possibly wait a little longer and see if it improves?

Believe me, I am not one of those nosy neighbors you hear about. I adore her kids and have been around them since birth.
