OP here. definitely not going to accept at this rate. i proposed $750 and they counter offered with $300.

$300 for full time overnight care for infant twins? That is extremely low. Are you actually considering this? I wouldn't even entertain this position for less than $15 an hour if I were you, and that's including being a live in position.

Are you desperate for work? I'm confused as to why you would even entertain this job offer. There are way better gigs available in NOVA

live-in nannies must be paid at least minimum wage for each hour that they work. that's $7.50/hour OP.

In this situation, I think the rate would be the same as day hours. You aren't a specialized night nurse, offering special night nurse services. You are more like a regular nanny with inverted hours, working nights instead of days. So you should probably make what a regular live in nanny would make, with perhaps a little bump to entice you to work nights.

If you were live out, I'd pay $18-19/hr for twins. If you are a live in, your compensation package should reflect the price of your accommodations. You haven't given us any details on this, but assuming you are in DC, I would guess your accommodations would be around $800/month.

The problem with that is that, if my math is right and you are only working 40/hrs a week, this would take your hourly rate down to around $13.50/hr. (Nannydeb is better at the math than I am so I hope she weighs in.) That seems a little low to me, so I would likely pay you $16/hr for twins IF you were a live in. I know that is very close to what you made for one child, but living in really is compensation, and needs to be counted as equivalent in calculations.

I would consider going as high as $18/hr if you were really someone I wanted for this unusual job, even as a live in.

just out of curiosity, how much does a live-in night nanny to twins make?i would take care of the babies in the middle of the night, so the parents could sleep. bath, formula feed, burp, diaper,change the babies. no heavy cleaning involved like scrubbing bathrooms, running a vacuum or anything. the hours would be M-F with weekends off. i think i would be expected to help out a little during the day too.

I am now paid $15/hour as a live-out nanny caring for one baby age 9 months. interested to know what nannies have made for this kind of situation? and eventually the babies would sleep through the night so my hours would change to daytime. it seems like a lot of money to have this kind of help.
