Part of the interview is probably meeting the kids to see if you get along.
...and if she had a sitter to rely on at 7am....?

This is absolutely not an appropriate environment in which to introduce a nanny to your children.
Leave them with a sitter or have the interview at a time when your husband can stay with them.

+1 You can see if they get along with your kids at the second interview.

A 7am interview at Starbucks with kids present can not be common practice.

MB wanting to have a quick face-to-face meeting before she goes into the office makes more sense. And if that goes well, you would meet the kids at the house later on.

With kids, no less.
Actually, she's the fight poster who repeatedly doesn't have a clue what she's talking about.

Then this is a situation where the interview should be in the home. If you want to actually see me engage with your children, it's not going to happen at Starbucks. I get that nanny candidates are "strangers off of the Internet" but can't you get a pretty good feel for a person talking on the phone and checking their background?

What would you prefer? I'm an MB, and I just generally assume that any time you're meeting someone from the internet that you don't know, neither party wants it to be in a private home. Sure, second interview at your home, but for that first interview, what would you suggest?

I agree it's odd as well. I know tha nanny sites recommend meeting outside of the home, but I just always find it unpersonal and forced. I have actually never accepted a position that stared out with an (inevitably awkward) coffee shop interview.

I hate interviewing families at Starbucks especially at 7 am when they are super busy. I always find it's distracting for everyone and when they bring their kids along the kids get bored easily it is also hard to get a connection with someone when there are 20 other people around. I also don't like looking for someone and having to walk up to a number of people asking if they are so so i feel like I'm playing where's Waldo but don't know what Waldo looks like
