The problem with this type of position is that you really have to pay a pretty high hourly rate to make it worth the person's time. And worth the effort to get out when the weather's bad, when they have something else come up, etc. I help a family out getting their little girl to school (about 45 mins) one or two days a week (making breakfast, helping with her hair, driving her) and they pay me 50.00 for that time. And while that is a good bit of money for me (I am a teacher, not at her school) it is not really anything for the parents because they both do surgery on those days and need someone reliable and who is going to show up every day, on time. I am a super reliable person, in general, but knowing that I will have a fifty dollar bill on the counter when I arrive makes it easier to get up an hour or so earlier on those mornings.

Paid carpool with another mom from that school seems like your best bet.

I am the nanny who posted from the opposite side of this question. Maybe check that post for more ideas..? 'Driving Rate...?'

Maybe you could find a student on their way to a class around that time that could drop your kids and earn some $ on the way? I would say, you should pay at least 1/2 hour rate + mileage.

GL with that, PP.

Yes, ask another parent to help you. Find out what they need from you in return.

So they just need a ride from school to home? No one is going to take a 20 minute job unless they live very close. I would suggest asking another parent about carpooling and giving them a weekly stipend of $50-$60. Most sitter require a 2-3 hour commitment so you'd end up paying for that a day when you only need 20 minutes of services.

I would try to find another parent who live close by that wouldn't mind driving your son for a flat fee each week (I should think $50 would more than cover it). Otherwise ask at your son's school, they should have some resources.

Anybody knows what the going rate is for someone to pick up the kids from school by car and drop them off at home? (ride from school to home is about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic; no waiting time or additional time otherwise required; current nanny doesn't drive so I need someone to pick up my oldest in the middle of the day from school in Bethesda and drop him off with my nanny in Friendship Heights).

Do you pay by the hour or rather a monthly fee? Where can I search for this kind of service? Do you know anybody you would recommend? Thanks!!
