I interviewed with a single mom 2 weeks ago about picking her daughter up from school and transporting her and another girl to soccer practice twice a week. She was in a hurry because she was preparing for traveling so she really needed someone reliable. We interviewed 2 weeks before her trip and I was pretty much hired on the spot (didn't even ask for references). 2 days before her travels, she sent a confirmation email for the first pick up to me and the other girl's mom, everything was set.
First day of picking the girls up: apparently they hadn't discussed what my rate was so the other mom (met to pick her daughter up from soccer field) didn't even know what to pay me. I stayed during practice to take the other girl back to the apartment where her dad was waiting to take her to his place. Also, the other mom wrote a check that didn't cover the full hours and the mom I met at the field thought I should send something in writing with my rate etc (I figured since the two were "close", the woman I interviewed with should have discussed this all with her AND I told the woman I interviewed with to give me the other mom's contact info so I can meet her before the first day so she could be at ease.. Never received.
So after the first pick- up, I sent an email just saying that it was a pleasure meeting the girls and how mature they are etc and I explained my rate in writing per the other mom's request. It took 3 days for someone to get back to me about my pay and if I wasn't needed to pick the girls up in 3days, I probably have not gotten paid, but considering the other mom was away I knew I was the only one to pick up her daughter even though she had access to email and made sure to confirm the night before ( I sent my email 3 days before which she ignored and didn't even mention my pay in this confirmation email) I only worked 8 hrs so all of my pay helps so I don't think its fair she acted that way considering she has a pretty powerful position.
Tonight, she sent an email asking me to send her a copy of my drivers license, insurance card, emergency contact information and my résumé... I've looked after her daughter twice including she has booked me for this coming Tuesday. I kind of feel like this is an insult. I am on sittercity.com with 5 star reviews (where we met)background check and driving history ALL posted in my profile. I take pride in my work.As a mom, she should have asked for my credentials BEFORE hiring me. Now, after the other mom no longer wants me to pick her daughter up (thank god, I see why she's divorced) she's asking for these saying because she was away she didn't think of these, but we interviewed 2 weeks PRIOR to her leaving so..no excuse in my book. What do you all think? I think I need to just let them go before it just gets ugly, I don't have a good feeling.
