I put an ad out on sittercity:
I need a backup nanny to be "on call" from 1pm to 9:15pm 3 days a week, and the occasional weekend (noon-9:15ish). You would be caring for a 5 month old and a 2 year old. Both are in diapers. The 2 yr old keeps herself busy. So mainly the 5 month old will need your "undivided attention". I would like you to be able to do light housekeeping, meal preparation (nothing fancy lol), baths, and daily outings to the park that is right across the street. You MUST be punctual. Mirage (my 2 year old daughter) should be asleep/napping upon your arrival, and should sleep until 4pm or 5pm. Max (my 5 month old son) will nap off and on. I understand the messes kids make, and will not be upset if there are toys left out, but I do not want to come home to a tornado ravaged apartment. Mirage will help clean. Please email me your resume (and background check if possible) at
shiaheather@hotmail.com. I will call you when I need you. I will pay $30-$50/day, depending on how long you are here. $200/week if you're filling in all week. Thank you.
And got this awful RUDE response back!!!
"Hi Heather,
The more I've had time to think on this the more I've had some concerns come up. I don't think I can take this position and I think you need to re-think what you are asking for because in the end it is not a fair agreement.
Firstly, 30-40 dollars a day for 8 hours or so of work is not even minimum age. Its about 3-4 dollars an hour. I would need to work for at least minimum wage. What you are willing to pay is not a fair price and if reported, can be deemed illegal since you are not paying the minimum. You want me to clean, cook and take care of your two LITTLE children for 40 dollars a day??? You get what you pay for sister. There is no way that your 2 year old plays by herself for 8 hours a day and would not be interested and all over a nanny/new person in her house. She is going to want you to play with her. Also, 2 year olds require to be supervised when cleaning up and supervised AT ALL TIMES. They do not clean up on their own unless you have a super child. They are still toddlers at 2, and toddlers love to get into everything if they are not supervised. I have yet to meet a 2 year old that knows how to clean up by herself consistently without you supervising it. Sorry, I know your child is sleeping 3-4 hours a day when i would be on duty but there is still no way that this is fair pay.
You sound lovely but I would rethink lowering your expectations when it comes to meal prep (have something ready to go on plates, bottles pre made, etc.) and all that is expected is that the babysitter clean up the toys and put plates/bottles in dishwasher, sweep up any messes after children and thats it. No "light housekeeping". Either that or up your pay. You are asking a lot of a nanny to be paid so little.
Also you can't expect me to be on call for 40 dollars a day and ONLY get that 40 dollars if I work. Like you, people have to work for a living and can not afford to be "on call" for someone without being paid. Either you pay to have a nanny on call or have set work hours and have a certain amount of hours that may be on call. But i can't take a whole junk of my day away for YOU to be on call for NO PAY!!!
This will probably come across as rude but I think it goes to show the little respect/thought that you put in towards the people who take care of/watch your children. It is almost a slap in the face towards nanny to be offered such a low wage for so much. You get what you pay for in the end of it all.
Thanks."
Seriously!!! And you wonder why nannies get treated as a joke? ITS BECAUSE OF LOW CLASS DISRESPECTFUL GIRS LIKE THIS ONE!!! I will be reporting her to sittercity and writing a review on how RUDE she was.
