I think it's a good idea for au pair agencies to do background checks but unnecessary for parents to agree to them for a regular, FT live out nanny situation.

I'm just stunned to see that our au pair agency didn't request anything from us regarding criminal background check. Only our word.
I would never allow my daughter to go live abroad in such situation. I would want to see the papers. And I have no problem giving out suck info about us either. It comes to show the girl has a family that cares about her.
