Yeah, you'd have to pretty much never be exposed to media to avoid the stereotypes. Not too many people pull that off, black or white.

Also, please ignore the person who told you to find out if you will be expected to do hair. I am 21:43, and if that was an interview question, I'd find it off-putting. IF doing hair is a job requirement, and IF it requires something separate and different that may be unfamiliar to you, expect that the family will all ready understand that you won't know what to do, and will give you instructions. Asking flat out at the initial interview would just kind of be disturbing to me.

This is BS. Its not a new experience. She's going on a nanny interview. Presumably with people who have kids. You're making this into a much bigger thing than it needs to be, OP, and maybe you aren't racist but I'm sure if you ask yourself why you're nervous it boils down to stereotyping. What is it that you're nervous about? You have a preconceived notion about black people in general, based on nothing more than stereotypes seeing as how you obviously have no experience with them.

It's okay to feel funny about a new experience. Didn't you get a funny feeling right before your first kiss? Be open minded. Find out if you will be expected to do hair.

It's natural to be uncomfortable with situations that are foreign to you. If they haven't lived or worked with a Caucasian person before, they'd likely feel the same way.

So. I feel weird asking this. But, it's a situation I've never been in.

I have an interview with an African American family on Friday. I've never worked for a family that's not Caucasian!!! I'm super nervous for some reason. Anyone else?
