Dial it back, 15:09. No one here is suggesting nannies should front purchases. This thread is about the best means for payment.

Reading is fundamental.

A nanny should NEVER have to front money for anything over $5.00. Either petty cash or visa for you to use for groceries, etc.

My MB or DB also always leaves cash in an envelope for me to us with the kids. I let them know whenever I use any. If it does run out and I use my own money they always reimburse me unless I insist on covering it.

Yup, give her a credit card attached to your account. If you don't trust her...why are you trusting her with your DCs? (MB here.)

We use a credit card and there is also an envelope with cash. It has never been an issue.

To the PP who has her employers' credit card, I'm just curious what you charged for $2,000.00. Would you be willing to share?

I would do this, with a low limit set

PP here. My employers did not set a low limit, so if you trust your nanny I don't think that is necessary. I had to charge something to the card for $2k a couple of weeks ago.

I second the visa card idea. My employers give me a prepaid visa to use when I'm out and about with L/O (grabbing lunch, zoo admittance, grabbing craft supplies etc...) and I just let them know when it needs to be replaced. They've never asked me to give them receipts but if they wanted to know where the money was going they could look it up online or call for a list of transactions.

This has always worked out best for me as well.

What about what of those prepaid visa cards? Just keep giving them receipts at the end of the week.

An envelope with money is a fine way to do it. You could also ask for a credit card to use for the purchases. Just explain to them you don't have the extra money to be putting in on your account and that you need the money in advance. They shouldn't have a problem with it!

I do the weekly grocery shopping for kids every other week or so (60-100 each time) and other time will be left a life of like school supplies , dance leotard etc . My boss will have me give her the receptis + milage Friday and write me a Check Monday.(payroll is direct deposit)

Some weeks I don't have extra 100 + if its more then just grocery shopping , what ways do you find seems to work best ? The parents seem to never have cash on them but maybe leave an envelope of 100 ish and refill it every week or ?
