Grow up OP. One year anniversaries are just not acknowledged in most professions. This should however mean renewing your contract, and an appropriate time to discuss a raise/change in benefits.

Nannyversary? I've heard it all now.

I'm an MB who works full-time at a demanding job (where no one remembers your start date years later). It is hard to remember my nanny's birthday, but I work at it (and in three different shares, I'm the only parent who does.) I really can't handle another Hallmark-y must remember occasion. System overload.

You've been a nanny for 25 years. So you're at least....40? And you're acting like a child.

I realized it was our former nanny's "nannyversary" about 2 weeks after the fact and only realized it because I was discussing nanny related things with a friend and she asked how long we'd been with our nanny. DS and I went out to buy some chocolate for her (3 year old DS insisted it was her favorite thing to eat since she would "sneak" pieces of chocolate from his Halloween stash), and then we gave her a bonus and renewed her contract. Either nanny pretended not to remember the fact that we were late or she didn't realize it either. I left my job to stay at home shortly after but our former nanny is now working for a friend of hours and we still see her on a weekly basis.

It varies family to family. The first family I worked for came home with a gift for me at the anniversary of my start date and I was shocked- I honestly didn't even remember. The family I work for now (for 8 years) has never mentioned it and I don't mention it either. My start date probably isn't on their radar (or mine, frankly). If they appreciate you in other ways (on holidays and your birthday), I wouldn't worry about it. It's a little thing! And in an office environment, your boss doesn't come in with balloons for every year you've worked with the company.

I'm sorry - and maybe my personality is just different from yours: but why do you even care? That seems a little silly to me to make a big deal out of being employed by them for a year....

My employers are awesome, they always do something special to celebrate holidays (candy, etc) but I would be Incredibly surprised if they even recalled my official 'start' day not to mention celebrated it. Don't take it personally, just give the little ones an extra hug and let them choose a fun activity if you need to commemorate it

I am sure your family appreciates you OP and you sound like a fantastic nanny all around!

Some families are just new to the game and not very knowledgeable about what is the typical protocol in the nanny profession.

As long as the family treats you w/the utmost respect and pays you a good salary, I would just let things go.

You CAN ask for a raise if you like however. It wouldn't hurt.

I just hit the two year mark with my family. They did nothing to recognize it, they did not last year either.

I've never had anyone acknowledge it, don't take it personally.

That should signify your contract renewal.

I also adore the family I work for and received very thoughtful cards and bonuses at Christmas and my birthday - not a single word was mentioned about my one-year anniversary (I didn't mind, though). I think if it's something a family/nanny wants to celebrate that's great, but I wouldn't take it personally if they didn't.

It's my 1 year anniversary working with this great family. I know they love & appreciate me. But nothing has been done and said about my 1 year mark. I did tell my boss this morning, but no warm wishes of any kind. I have nannied for 25+ years for 5 families. And for 25 years, I've always had my Nannyversary celebrated or acknowledged in some way, for example: raise, card, cookies, gift card, dinner out, or just a big hug!
So feeling a little blue...
Nannies and employers, do you think a Nannyversary is something to acknowledge?
