Nannies need to stand up for themselves. Everyone is concerned about their safety, but a nanny should pretend she's in la-la land where everyone is trustworthy? I don't think so.

If one were to enter into a nanny share with an unfamiliar family and the share would be at that family's house, how acceptable would it be to do a background check on that family?
