They didnt value me as an employee. When I quit and she called me crying (literally) I wanted to reach across the line and shake sense into her. Four weeks of unpaid vacation that wasn't agreed upon in advance isnt how you treat someone who provides quality care and loves your child like family.

I ALWAYS have gotten a "Thank You" from the families I have worked for and I cannot tell you how much that means to me. For instance, just last night, at like ten at night, my current employer sent me a random text saying how blessed they were to have found me and how much the kids love me. She said she was so thankful for me and wanted me to know that.

I cannot tell you how much that warmed my heart.

Sure, us nannies love competitive pay, holiday bonuses and gifts, but honestly being appreciated is just as important. Really it is.

Because they were late with my paycheck for the 4th time and I had worked for the, for less than a year. I tried to talk it out with my DB, while saying as tactfully as possible that it was unacceptable and it would be the last time. He caught an attitude and raised his voice at me. I had a new job lined up before the week was out, and they were floored when I gave my notice that Friday.

Because upon taking the job, it was agreed that DB would work in his home office and be minimally invasive. It turned out that he sat on the couch all day (in a small 2 bedroom apt.), watched t.v. And occasionally and VERY loudly took business calls in the same room as the kids and I. In one week, we were able to leave the house once (3rd floor walk up with infant twins...dad was supposed to help ith the stroller etc. and was never "available" to do so). That was my only week with them.

Because I love working with the kids not the parents....

Sounds like you were not well suited. Good luck at your next job.

The paycheck was a prearranged requirement.

Your "thank you" was the paycheck you got each week. Your employer isn't your friend.

In a year and a half, I never once heard a "thank you" for anything.
Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, doing parents' laundry (not my job).
I got tired of looking for gratitude from people who obviously could care less.
