Sorry about the angry poster, OP. Your story was perfectly clear and consistant. Hope everything went well and preschool is working out. I love that your child had the same nanny for three years. That speaks so well of you and of her.

Yes, that is extremely fair. We gave our nanny about one week and worked really hard to find her a new position that was a good fit for her.

No, she can't collect unemployment if she has a job.

OP - this sounds different from what you presented initially which made it sound like it was a mutual decision for you to leave share and them to use nanny solely since they now had 2 kids. Now seems like other family plans to continue share but you're just done (perfectly fine but differnt).
How much notice did you give the nanny & share family? This factors into the feedback you got on whether 2 weeks severance was a good/fair/adequate parting gift.

You really don't need to give severance, esp sinc ethe other family is keeping her on.

OP, your gift sounds lovely and I'm sure your nanny will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

As for the unemployment, do you know if the other family will make up what you were paying?

Two weeks is very, very generous. Don't feel badly about that at all. In a similar situation, I got a bracelet. Nice thought, but I wear very little jewelry so it won't get much use. And I spent at least double on their gift. I feel like a brat saying that, but it upset me a little bit.

We are leaving a nannyshare after 3 years because our child is starting pre-school. We have had the same nanny for that time as well as shared with the same family. The other family is keeping the nanny since the now have a second child.

Is 2 weeks pay enough as a parting bonus? We were planning on taking her and her family out to dinner as well. We have limited means (HHI less than $100K and rent rather than own our place), so a bonus is definitely going to eat into our small savings.

Unemployment: can she collect unemployment for our part of the share? We set it up as two different families being separate employers, so if we are terminating her employment would she qualify even though she will still be working for the other family. We withhold the necessary taxes, so everything is above board in this share.
