Anonymous wrote:$24 per hour is too high.

It is reasonable for the other family to expect a rate reduction based on the fact that their child will now get less of the nanny's attention. If you are currently paying $9 each, I can't see the other family paying more than $7-8 per hour once you add a third child. At $24 per hour, you'd be paying at least $16 for your two kids. It would not make sense for you to stay in the share when you could easily find a nanny to care for your two kids at $16 per hour, probably with more flexibility to accommodate your family's schedule and more attention to light housekeeping, children's laundry, children's cooking, etc.

$20 is more reasonable, in part because the standard new baby raise in DC is $1-$2 per hour and in part because $20 would allow the other family to get a rate reduction to $7 or $8 per hour while still keeping your contribution in the $12-13 per hour range, which is less than you'd likely have to pay to hire a nanny with five years experience but no education for your two kids.

Pay rates aside, are you sure you want your children in a three-child share with the kids each about a year apart? That's a big range and the nanny will be stretched pretty thin. I'd be concerned about her ability to keep them all safe and engaged in age-appropriate activities.

+1 to everything, especially the last bit.

Unless this is only a part time position, there is no way you can't find a good nanny with 5 yrs experience and no education for $12-$13 an hour. You should search for your own nanny, pay the same, and drop the hassle of a share and overpaying a nanny not worth that much money.

Nanny here. Agree that $20 is reasonable.

Bump her up to $20/hr
You pay $12-13, other family pays the rest.

Going rates depend on experience and education, driving/not driving, legal/not legal. A 20 year exp. nanny is going to make more than a 2 year exp. nanny.

Our daughter (2 years) is in a nanny share with another little boy (1 year). We're about to have a second girl. What do most people pay nannies watching three kids per hour? We live in DC.
