It would be better to be dishonest and waste their time?

Tell the truth - it's too much driving.

It doesn't sound like either side has done anything wrong. This job just fit OP's needs.

Just tell them the commute is too long for you, wish them luck in their search and move on.

What the hell are you talking about?

OP has done nothing wrong. She wants to cancel an interview. If the parent gives you a negative review for that, report them.

Plenty of garbage that employers pull as well. Best to go the agency route.

Tell them this:

I had a phone interview with a potential employer today.
We decided to set up an in-person interview for this Wednesday.
I'm not overly excited about this particular job but thought it wouldn't hurt to interview.
I am leaving my current job because I commute 10 hours each week. It's too much.
After having checked the mileage to the address they have me, I realized there is really no difference and I will be driving the same number of hours as I do now.
Is there a polite, tactful way of telling them this prior to the interview. I hate the idea of interviewing in their home, having them ask me for references and me having to tell them that I don't want the job.
This was set up through Sittercity, so I don't want to risk my good reviews.

Please help.
