What is the best way to get a job in orange county, do they have any agencies?

I am a PP about not moving to LA, but as someone else said, Orange county can be a great alternative to LA. Newport Beach is very nice and Laguna Beach is one of my favorite places on earth.

I'm a nanny in LA and have had all fantastic experiences except one horrible temp job.

My advice: visit la first and see if you like it. I love it here and wouldn't want to move anytime soon, but obviously some people don't feel the same way. (I will say if you want to find negatives you'll find them, and same with positives.) I am a young nanny in school and make 20+ an hour but rent is also really expensive here. I've worked for amazing families! Look into Westside Nannies. Best agency!

Why are you stuck?

I agree! Just recently left LA for the Bay Area. I am so much happier here! LA nanny jobs, especially at the higher salary ranges tend to be crazy.

Well SF has the worst cost of living which is a big thing to consider. Also, if looking for the "classic" California experience with sunny and nice warm-hot days, SF is NOT the place to go. The whole west coast from Seattle to San Diego can be freaking 80 degrees in cities right along the coast, but the Bay Area has it's own weird climate (and microclimates) and we will be 20 degrees cooler. Only us. The fog steals away what could be a sunny day, but are an ok temp in the winters and the rain in mainly in the winter months as well. This is a city where I prefer not to drive, but we have good public transit and so you don't need to drive often if not required by your job. Parking is terrible and expensive though (they just implemented parking meters on Sundays not too long ago as well). Most people with cars that work downtown commute via transit instead.

Wow..I'm glad I asked! Thanks for your input. I have to ask though what is it about it that sucks the life out of you? I really am curious. I plan on spending some time there before I would make any decisions to move.
Thanks for the info on Newport beach!! Something to look into.

Move to Orange County instead! I just moved from RI to Cali and LOVE Newport Beach. I had my choice in great paying positions just through care.com

Well said. I left after six years. I miss the money, but I don't miss the nonsense that comes with some of those jobs or the people.

While there are some good paying nanny jobs in LA, depending on your experience, you won't be offered those jobs. And those jobs usually come with longer hours and demanding families. But there are good normal families who pay good wages, but those are hard to find.
For other jobs, you are competing against a lot of illegal nannies and families who want to pay off the books.

Also, many families want someone with local experience.

It also tends to be a lot of who you know in LA. While not everyone is like that, there are plenty of people like that in LA. It is also very superficial.

You also have a lot of smog and traffic to deal with.

You should spend some time in LA before deciding to move.

Look into San Francisco.

I realize this is a DC forum, however it's also the nanny forum with the most response traffic on the Internet so I figured I'd put this out there.
I'm thinking about relocating to Los Angeles. I'm currently on the east coast but have always wanted to live in California. I would not move until next summer when my contract with my current family is up. Can anyone give me any feedback on moving to LA? Which nanny agencies are best to work with? Best areas to look for apartments? Thanks!
