How long would this be lasting for? If you haven't noticed, there is only one month left of summer this year and some schools start in 3 weeks. Are you thinking about it for NEXT summer? If just for the rest of this summer and not continuing the position into the rest of the school year, I would recommend bumping the pay as it is just a very temp position and most looking for something will want a job that will last much longer. No one likes job searching then having to do it again 3 weeks later or to do both now and end up finding something for the fall that they would want you to start early to get to know the kids first.

No need to ask. Decide what you are willing to pay and offer that. You'll find candidates. It's a buyer's market about there.

To be generous, offer $15/hr for your situation.

You didn't ask her yet, OP?

OP, depending on the location of the house, you could probably find a recent college grad or grad student to sit two days a week in exchange for room and board. I bartered childcare for free room and board in my summer after college, and worked much more than two days a week. I still felt like it was a good deal, because housing costs in the area were so high.

Expect to pay more if you plan to import your regular nanny to the beach town, because she will still need to maintain her primary residence and may view the relocation as an inconvenience rather than a perk.

What did she tell you about her fees?

OP- what do you think you should be paying for this arrangement? It really doesn't matter what the nannies and MB's post on here. Do you have an idea of what you are willing to pay? I don't think age matters- as another PP mentioned.

If you need her for 2 days a week, would you be okay with her finding more families to babysit for down at the beach when she isn't working for you? If you wouldn't be okay with that, then you most likely will have to pay a higher hourly rate or a weekly salary that is on the higher end, IMHO.

Depending on her experience, I would plan on paying at least $15 an hour minimum. If this was proposed to me, I would ask for $20 an hour and would need to find other gigs on my days off in order to support myself. Most people cannot afford to only work 2 days a week.

Have you considered hiring a very responsible HS graduate or college student? They may be willing to work the 2 days and enjoy the rest of their week going to the beach and making friends. An arrangement like that- you might be able to get away with paying $14-16 an hour.

Good luck.

Anonymous wrote:13:21 You think you deserve $25 an hour to be a summer live in??? If the mom needs 2 days at 10 hours, 500 a week would be $25 an hour.

OP I would offer $15 an hour which is already high for a live in position with room and board paid. $10-$12 is far more common for a live in situation.

Hi! I sad that I wasn't sure, and what I would do it for taking into account that I couldn't work elsewhere, and would be leaving my friends and family for the summer. I didn't look at this as a live in since it's only temporary. If the nanny has a house or apartment back home, she will need to still pay those bills. Like I said, it depends on the nanny and their situation. If it's a young girl living with her parents still and who would love to spend the summer at the beach, then I agree with your rate. However, if it's a professional nanny, then really, this job is very inconvenient and so the compensation would have to make up for that.

Well this sounds like it could be an awesome summer vacation! However, how old is the nanny? If she is young or still in school, then you may be able to offer a lower rate. However she is a grown adult on her own then it's another story. As awesome as the job sounds, even if she is only working 2 days a week, this job would mean she couldn't easily have another job as well and so I think F/T payment would be fair. Honestly, I'm not sure what that would be but I would do this for about $500/wk. Keep in mind she would also be giving up a lot of her personal time with friends and family since she'll be living with you.
