[vimeo]Mb here. I pay for my nanny's metro and bus. Would definitely ask to cover the fee

I wouldn't park in the garage that far away without a ride to my car at the end of the night. The cost is irrelevant.

It is not customary for an employer to pay an employee's costs of commuting to or parking at work. However, this is a perk that is occasionally offered pursuant to negotiation.

This is an issue at my job where I nanny at. usually when I get there in the morning I park (illegally) for 2 mins with the hazards on until MB leaves and then I follow her out and take her spot.

OR, I park a block away and do the same once MB leaves and still take her (resident) parking spot).

We are very good about getting in and out.

Ask the family where you should park. They will likely have a solution.

Can you park in their spot?

I had only spoken to them on the phone as it was a last minute emergency thing they needed. I charge $15 for babysitting

$6 an hour or all together? Ask for it, they might say no but it's worth a try

A 1/2 mile walk at night to get back your car? What a pain in the ass! It's worth asking, some of these garages (like in Chevy Chase) are very expensive

I agree. I've turned down jobs for this reason before.

Why can't you park on the street?

It should be discussed prior to babysitting.

Are you seriously asking this question-why bother babysitting if you have to pay to park? Makes no sense!

It depends on how much you charge for your sitting, OP.

Question

If you take a babysitting job and learn afterwards that you will have to pay to park. Say in a lot or parking garage (about 1/2 mile away)
Do you suck it up pay the fee or ask the parents to pay that fee.
Parents do you expect babysitters to pay a parking fee or do you pay it.
