Why?

Because what the caregiver would be doing would be closer to an in-home daycare than being a nanny (employee). You don't do taxes for a daycare, you pay them their fee that they charge you. In this case, the caregiver is going to negotiate a fee with the OP as she is not technically an in-home daycare (with only one child other than hers) and doesn't have a set rate/fee already.

What are you talking about? I didn't sense any attitude from the OP. $15 an hour is WAY too high for a SAHM watching her own child to bring on another infant full time. Where are you getting your information from? This is a nanny share and no family pays $12-15 an hour per child. If every SAHM could be with their child all day and make normal nanny wages, I believe daycare for infants would become obsolete.

I agree, especially if the SAHM is doing the work at HER home and not the OP's. I would say $8-12/hr for the range, depending on various factors.

$8-$10/hr is a great rate for this arrangement, OP.

Thank you everyone! I wrote the OP, I'm just not signed in now. My child is 6 months and hers is 13 months and she is a friend of a friend. I now have a much better idea on what a fair rate may be. $15 seems high to me, but around $8-$10 is what I was thinking (plus some other benefits).Thank you all for your input!!

I think $10/hr sounds reasonable.

Why would daycare be obsolete??

$9-10 an hour seems reasonable depending on how many hours, what expectations you have, and if you are offering any benefits such as vacation time, paid holidays, and sick days.

This sounds more like a nanny share arrangement. Are your children around the same ages? Will you be paying on the books?

To the PP who said she wouldn't pay more than $8 an hour, that would be doable if the OP is going to pay overtime for anything over 40 hours a week.

You are right only if OP has other attractive options. Most parents don't have lots of options for trustworthy infant care.

How old is your child and how old is her child?
Did you already ask her about rates? Maybe between 10-15/hr.

I am hiring a mom who has one child of her own to baby-sit my infant in her home full-time. I have not yet discussed payment with her and I really don't have an idea of what a good rate would be. I feel like it would be a little less than a nanny working in my home, but still not sure what an appropriate rate is. Anybody have any idea?
