Do you think that filing for unemployment is fair if you aren't working on the books? How does that even work? I would imagine that you would also get in trouble for not paying taxes and it would be more of a hassle as opposed to just finding a new nanny position. I've never needed unemployment so I don't know how it works which I why I ask.

Yes I agree children should learn about choice and learning. But calling them brats, and the OP making them responsible for her horrible experence is not.

Nothing wrong with the need to vent. BUT ANYTIME you hold children accountable, even in your head, again you should not be caring for them. They are CHILDREN. It is not about ego, it is about being responsible. Many of us love the nanny profession and it hurts to see anyone refer to children in such a negative term.

Get a grip. One can love, nurture, engage, and understand a child and still think they are a brat (or a snot, or naughty, or a little shit) on occasion. The ego inflation on some of you "nannies" is astounding. Guess what, the kids probably were brats (plenty are) and the hourly rate OP agreed to could have nothing to do with her education or experience-this may be a shocking concept but- some people take jobs because they need the money, however paltry it may be.
OP-if you were paid on the books, file unemployment. If you weren't, it's probably best to just walk away (you will get hit with back taxes, though I'm not sure why PP had to say it like such a bitch).

Doesn't matter where you are from...if you were making $9 an hour for 3 children you must have no experience and/or be uneducated.

I agree with the other PP, you probably aren't a great nanny to begin with. If you want to be petty and file for unemployment just remember that you will also have to pay taxes on your income for the past 1.5 years which you probably weren't doing so good luck finding money to cover the taxes.

Whoever suggested reporting them or going to the IRS is just immature.

OP, you should have left the family a long time ago. You have responsibility here too. They were selfish before they fired you and yet you continued to work for them. Shame on you. Secondly, you refer to their children as "brats" is awful. The children are not at fault here and should not have your anger taken out on them. I dare surmise that you probably weren't that great a nanny to begin with. Remember, what ever you do punish the family. Karma will be following you.

File unemployment. If they didn't pay on the books, they have the irs come after them. Sweet vengeance. And you'll win.

If they didn't pay you overtime, report them. whether you were paid on the books or not.

So i got fired today, yup, no notice just a voicemail and i'm pretty sure my phone didnt even ring. Its not really surprising given my employers are the selfish and inconsiderate type who have nickeled and dimed me from the day i started. forgetting to pay me a few hours here or there, never received overtime and never got paid vacations or any of the other perks i see others getting. i got paid 9 an hour but im not from the DC area so even though its low, its a couple dollars above minimun wage. i spent the past year and a half taking care of their 3 brats more hours then them. FML!
