It could be negotiated. I see no good reason why household employees are exempted from this requirement other than the benefit to law makers themselves who are likely rich enough to have household staff that work as many or more hours than them. Shameful....

I haven't walked 40 hours a week since i was 18. Most nannies work 45-60 hours a week.

In my 10+ nanny career I have worked 50+ hrs a week. Currently working 110hrs a week. Never have seen a 40hr week.

As a career nanny, I have never worked less than 50 hours a week. Nannies who refuse to work more than 40 hours a week not only limit their pool of families dramatically, but they eliminate all that wonderful OT pay they get for hours worked over 40! OP, you should be easily able to find someone to work the hours you need.

Totally doable. I have worked more than 40 hours/week in most of my jobs. As PP mentioned it's important to make sure your nanny has opportunities to get out with the baby so she doesn't feel isolated.

Yes, there's nannies who work that many hours.
Just remember she gets her hourly wage for the first 40 hours, and time-and-a-half for anything over.

I used to take care of an infant for 50 hours/week. It did become isolating, and I really needed to take her out often just so I could have some interaction and talk to people. We spent a lot of time at the park and library story time. Will the nanny be able to take the baby out in good weather and good health? Something to think about.

Totally doable. My manny just increased his hours because of a job change in our household that means longer hours for us.

Nannies working more than 40 hrs/wk is a very common situation. Make sure you have a clear schedule and pay overtime and you shouldn't have a problem.

This is quite normal actually. Our nanny works 8-6, M-Fr. I know she had very similar schedules/hours in her prior positions and I know that those kinds of hours are pretty typical among the families I know where both parents work outside the home.
