Same here. Plus I might be off the following Monday and Tuesday or, at the very least, have to come in for a few hours on those days.

I may be using a vacation day. I'm leaving town on the evening of the 3rd (leaving work early). Originally MB was taking the kids out of town on the 5th so I was free to either work the morning (they'd leave after lunch so she could work in the am) or have the day to myself as a freebie (she'd leave in the am and work from their destination in the pm). Now they might leave on the 6th. Likely our original agreement will stand regardless; however I'm fine using a vacation day for the 5th if need be.

My family is taking it off so I get an extra vacation day but this is common for me during every long holiday weekend

Obviously our nanny is off (with pay) on the 4th, but I would be fine with her taking one of her PTO days on the 5th if she tells us in advance. It's a work day for most people, so the same difficulty in finding other child care or taking the day off myself applies. Tell me a couple of weeks in advance and it would be totally fine. Tell me today that you'd like to take off next Friday to make it a long weekend, and I'll probably be a bit irritated just because you haven't given me enough time to make alternate plans.

Agree w/ 20:04. I am off work so nanny is too but if she were to ask me 1 week prior I would likely be really annoyed since if my office was open i'd need to be there cuz my boss is out.

I will be off. I requested the day off a month ago. Why would it be wrong to use a vacation day to get a long weekend? My employers loved the idea. I get a weekend long enough to take a beach trip, it only cost us all one vacation day, and I probably wont need any more time off the rest of the summer.

I would requested the vacation days little earlier. Requesting a day now for next week could be difficult even if they would otherwise have been on with it.

I'll be off but that's cause I normally am off on Fridays.

My MB did ask me to work the 4th but a double pay cause its a holiday. Couldn't refuse that pay. So guess I'll be partying with my charge. Well he'll be sleeping cause he's an infant but hey still all good.

You need to discuss it with your job. We don't know if they need you or not, on the 5th.
