OP here. She seems to not expect anything more than $1800. I would not want to pay someone that low and on top of that she's going to eventually figure out that she's being paid much less than the market rate . She was working for the same family for 10 years and I believe they have 4 kids - I'm guessing she never bothered looking elsewhere and that's why she had no problem being paid so low. I would expect her to work 40-50 hours a week. $600 seems fair - I'm new at this so I have no idea what the market rate is.

How many hours a week will she be working? You're right, $1800 seems pretty low given that she provided child care and did house work. Did you ask the nanny what she was looking for in terms of pay? If she's working over 40 hours a week and doing heavy cleaning, she should be making at least $600 a week take home, IMO.

Paying for her health insurance and metro card is a nice incentive. You really need to ask the nanny though. 15 years experience is a lot.

How much would you pay a non-English speaking live in nanny to look after a 4 month old and also do housework (we live in a 3 bedroom apartment). She has 15 years experience and her previous employer paid her $1800 a month pretax, no health insurance. That seems extremely low to me. Would $2000 a month pretax be reasonable? We would also pay for her health insurance and metro card. She would get two weeks of paid vacation a year plus 10 paid holidays.
