Antibiotics do nothing for a virus.

Doctors are far more comfortable taking a longer wait and see approach. I know that 3/4 of the time when I take DC to the doctors even if they are very sick the doctors proclaims virus and doesn't end up doing anything. It is true that your body can fight off many infections so antibiotics really are only needed in some situations. As a mom though I want my kid to feel to better faster so I usually push more.

I would also refrain from asking them if they're happy that the Wicked Witch is dead.

OP, I completely understand what it's like working for doctors. A previous position both MB and DB were doctors and when their 7 month old had 105 fever they weren't even worried. I basically told my MB that I was taking the baby to the doctor and if she wanted to come, I'd be happy to pick her up from work. She eventually came to her senses and turned out the baby had bronchiolitis. They never even thanked me for insisting the baby be seen by a doctor. Another time the baby was making weird wheezing sounds while I was driving the other kids to school and since he was rear facing I couldn't see his face. I pulled the car over, hopped in the back and looked at him and could see he was having difficulty breathing. I called DB and said I was going right to the ER. Neither MB or DB came to the hospital to be with their baby. I will never work for doctors again.

I would tell your bosses what your concerns are about the baby and let them know you think a doctors visit is in order. I hope your little one feels better soon.

Op here: thank you both! I'm glad someone understands! I never want to mention anything medical bc I assume they know what's up but I think I may have too!

Hey there, I am a nanny to an 8 month old little girl. I COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from. My DB is a pediatrician and MB is a surgeon. I had a similar experience when my charge was 4 months old and did end up approaching MB. I am so glad I did. As doctors, they were the first to say they weren't as concerned and wanted to stay away from antibiotics if possible, but she has a sinus infection and once on antibiotics it cleared up quickly. I would definitely mention your concern. Green mucus generally means infection. Poor baby I hope he feels better soon!! good luck!!

I'd send a text saying he's looking worse than he was this morning and describing his new symptoms, then asking if they wanted me to call his pediatrician or do anything special for him. My DB is a doctor but he always defers to the ped because babies are not his specialty.

The baby boy I nanny has had a cold since last weekend (a week from sat). Parents say he swallowed some water and that's what began it. Both parents are doctors so I feel uncomfortable speaking up but he's getting worse and I think it's a possible upper res. infection. It started out a cough and runny nose but has progressed into that plus eyeboogers (and ALOT) of them and also he has been sleeping A TON more and bright green snot... Should I say something or assume they have it under Controll? Mb's. what would you want your nanny to do? Nannies, what would you say?
