+1. Meal planning and preparation for the kids, baths (depending on work hours), and often food shopping for the child are all very standard duties for any full-service nanny.

She obviously sees her relationship w/DS as more than just a paycheck.
She wants him to have enough food when she is not there.

She obviously is happy preparing the food so let her.

If it really bothers him, then that is his bad.

Why do you think this is a function of lazy MBs? It is simply good management and an efficient use of family resources for an MB to outsource tasks that can easily be delegated in order to free up her time for child- and house-related tasks that aren't so easy to delegate. This is especially true when the alternative is paying a nanny to watch tv or play on her phone during her charges' naptimes.

My boss would flip out and send me emails/texts/pigeon carriers to bitch and moan if she didn't have baby food prepared for the weekend. I've been with the family 8 years and the parents have never ever made baby food for any of the kids. I still make food and freeze it for the older ones!!

My daughter's nanny prepares most of her foods and stocks us up for the weekend. It works well because DH and I tend to eat at work or late at night, and we don't always eat meals that would be particularly healthy or appealing to DD. I often suggest recipes and have given the nanny guidelines on what is okay to serve and what's not (in broad strokes, like a vegetable at each meal, organics only, pasta and breads must be whole wheat, hamburger only if from Whole Foods, sweets only at parties, etc.), but she makes a grocery run once a week and takes it from there.

DH and I supplement what the nanny does especially on weekends when we eat at home more, but it is so nice to know that there is always something in the fridge that is healthy, kid-friendly, and ready to go.

MB here. I always made the baby mush myself. Now that the baby eats almost anything, I normally just prep a dinner plate for him to re-heat and feed her for lunch.

Our nanny makes food choices and prepared baby food during the week and I do on the weekend. I enjoy being able to prepare some as well. We always talk about what each other are preparing and what DS seems to enjoy most to ensure we are creating a great balanced diet...

I am a nanny of an 8 month old. I do prepare most of the food and also stock the fridge for the weekend for MB and DB. We all communicate on food choices. I do the grocery shopping for baby and have a lot of freedom on what to choose, however MBs wishes for food choice would always come first!

OP here, thanks nannies. I will chat with my hubby later. I know he appreciates the help, but maybe he would like to prepare the weekend food fresh on his own more. I myself and totally ok with the nanny preparing food. I love the bonding of feeding my little once, but as far as preparing and choosing foods, I loving having the nanny to take the lead.

I choose, purchase, and cook the baby food for my charges. I do my best to include my MBs in choosing the recipes, I've shown them how I prepare and store the food, and give them the space to be as involved/uninvolved as they like. One of my MBs likes to feed to her son but likes not having to do the planning and prep that goes into his food. The other mom likes to be more hands on. I do! I make about 80% of the baby food and absolutely prep a lot on Fridays to get them through the weekend (and on Mondays to get me through the week). As far as choosing the food, I make recommendations for which foods might be good (i.e. go easy on bananas as they can lead to constipation, introduce mangos if baby gets stopped up, peas are an excellent first finger food unless you're doing baby led weaning in which case super soft avocado or pear is great) but the parents ultimately decide what to buy.

I am the mom to the sweetest, most amazing 7 month old! My nanny is awesome and has a lot of experience in baby's first foods. She has been making homemade baby food and preparing baby led foods for my DS to try. My DH thinks its strange that the nanny is volunteering to prepare all of the baby food, even for the weekends when she doesn't work. She has been making sure the fridge is stocked on Fridays to get us through the weekend. We are just starting solids with DS and I think DH is feeling a little jealous the nanny is making all the food decisions. Truth is, she has more experience and is making great food choices. Do other nannies make/choose baby's foods?
