PP here, you could also look around for parents of kids in your neighborhood that will have a child also going to the same middle school as your child. See if there is a way to do carpool with them in the mornings (either their parents driving or offering to share the cost of a morning nanny who is already there for work for that hour).

You might want to find someone that will start with the new school year. I can understand wanting to keep someone that is already helping out, but it would be easier to find someone that is looking for something come Aug/Sept whenever your child's school starts up and keep them through the whole school year.

If you wait, most people will have already accepted other jobs. You might find a few that haven't gotten something set up yet, but why limit yourself to that chance of trying to find someone good and reliable later on?

You can try university/college boards, websites like care.com, sittercity, or even CL. No matter which website you use, stay safe and make sure you check references and do a background check.

Good luck, OP.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. I'll have someone for the first couple of months who is already close to us, but then that person will be moving on to a new job (finishing up a degree program now) and I'll need someone for afternoon. I'll just have to do am and look for a student or someone for the afternoon. How do people find students nowadays? It's been a long time since I have looked for a sitter.

I have a kid who will be in middle school next year out of our (city) neighborhood) plus a kid who will still be at elementary school in our neighborhood. I have a very flexible job working for myself, but I can't be in 2 places at once and I also have to get some work done at some point that isn't the middle of the night. In order to maximize time, I'm thinking that it makes the most sense to have someone drop off and/or pick up my middle school child some days. The public transit option isn't great (bus only or bus to subway transfer) so really a person with a car would be best (we don't have an extra to offer so of course I would pay mileage). If it's pick up, I'm thinking that it would be great to have the person do some homework help or an activity or something to make a longer job (freeing me up to spend time with my younger child and/or do work while younger child does homework). So an hour or so in the am (maybe someone in my neighborhood who is already headed in the direction of the other neighborhood, if such a person could be found? Maybe 3 hours in the pm. Would not have to be both, just something to keep me from driving around all day. Thoughts on what to pay and a good place to find this magical creature if s/he can be found? DH might be able to help a little depending on his work hours and I have someone who can help take younger child to school on days I can't do it so I'm primarily concerned with middle school child and maybe 2-3 days/week. Thanks!
