I'm 1152a and I'm neither the OP or an MB.

Most likely, her rates start at $15 for one child with minimal duties. But if you're going to have 5 kids there and she's serving them all a home cooked dinner and has to get Fido out, then yes, she'd charge more.

She knows the details -- 2 kids (ES & MS), no cooking/cleaning. Just watching them and putting them to bed

Are you saying you've already had her over?

I don't think $15 is unreasonable, but she isn't saying she charges $15/hr. She's saying it starts there, so at the end of the evening when its time to write a check, she can charge whatever she wants?

+1

It's not an odd way for her to state them, it opens up the discussion for clarification.

Tell your children what you want. With fellow adults, you discuss. Unless you think they are beneath you.

I'm getting ready to have a girl come over and babysit (communicating via email). I asked her what she charges and she says her rates "start" at $15/hr. How exactly am I supposed to take this? I would like to know an exact dollar amount -- is this unreasonable of me?
