She said she did, though, so I know she's lying. When I asked her how she felt she said "Good. A lot better now because of the medicine." (This was once she was at work--my DH was the one to stay home and wait for her, so he's the one who actually saw her but I called over lunch time) To anyone who thinks I am so unethical or a horrible human being for "invading her privacy" just consider the fact that she made it my business once she lied to me about a fictitious ailment in order to come in to work late, where, once there, she takes over the responsibility of watching MY kids. Besides, what I did was technically not illegal, so unless you are a lawyer in my state or a doctor in my business/hospital, please don't assume otherwise.

You are too dumb to be a Dr. Why would you admit, on a public forum, that you just violated someone's HIPAA rights? Ugh, I wish I knew what state you were in so I could find comfort in that you aren't my Dr.

This is OP. I don't know why you think I'm a troll, but you can think what you want, I guess. To the PP with the questions: I can access anyone's prescription record in minutes through a database at work. Not that I have to explain myself to you, but since you seem to think this is so impossible....it's not one's complete medical records--only prescriptions filled in the state in which I reside (Not DC/VA, btw).

I was hoping for actual advice instead of accusations, so any such subsequent responses are appreciated!!

PP, it depends on a lot of factors. First and foremost, if your doctor's office has paper medical records. If they do, the only way your boss (or anyone) could access your records would be if they worked at the same office and pulled your chart.

Otherwise, if your doctor uses electronic medical records, it becomes trickier. The hospital I work for is part of a larger network. Technically I can look up a patient that is in that network, even if it is not the hospital where I work. But, some doctor's offices are pretty strict with who has access to their records so that does not apply to all hospital networks. There are a lot of other things I can tell you, but I don't want to give THE TROLL answers to my questions. But short answer, there would have to be a lot of things in place for your bosses to be able to easily access your medical records.

Side note: There used to be a nurse who worked in our hospital whose ex SIL was treated in another dept of the hospital. The nurse accessed her medical records to give to her brother to use in the divorce/custody hearing. Her ex SIL was able to see that the nurse had accessed her medical records and filed a complaint with the hospital. Obviously, since this is illegal, it was reported. That former nurse is now in a TON of legal trouble for what she did.

Pp, this is unrelated to this post somewhat but as a nanny who's mb and DB are doctors; I'm curious... Can my MB look at my medical files IF she had the gul to go against ethics and look up my medical info? I'm just curious

How do you know that she wasn't given a written prescription and took it to a pharmacy to get it filled? How do you know her record is complete from a visit this morning?

I'm in the medical field so I can't wait to see how you try to answer these questions. Because I know for a fact that you are lying and you have NO way of knowing this.

Hi, I was hoping for advice on what to say to my nanny of 9 months who was late this morning due to having to go to the dr for a bladder infection/uti, or so she says. I am a doctor myself and was able to access her medical/prescription records, and turns out she did not receive the medication she said she did. There was no prescription filled from today. I had a gut feeling that she was fibbing, and now I pretty much know she was. So my question is, what do I do now?? My family does really love her, she's a wonderful nanny, but I don't know how big of a deal I should make of this. I haven't told my husband yet...

Any advice/opinions appreciated! TIA!
