My DH is often with me for the last half hour of the day because he picks me up from work and he is always with me when I watch my dcs for date night so he has come to know mb/db and dcs very well. There was an incident where mb forgot one carseat in her car so she asked if my DH could stay with 1dc while I picked other dc from daycare. She trusts my judgment and DH completely.

Only for bathroom breaks, and I asked MB beforehand.

Just for bathroom breaks or to grab something from the car real fast. My nanny friends (including my family's former nanny, so I know she's trusted by MB) and I will swap kids in this situation. Whoever has to use the bathroom will take all the kids that need to use the bathroom and the other will stay with the ones who don't. One exception was when the two youngest were sleeping in the car. I sent the oldest in to the preschool to fetch her brother but still needed to sign him out (there's no parking lot at the preschool so I needed to go out of site of the car in order to do this). I asked a mother picking up her own kid to stand by the open car for a minute with the sleeping kids while I ran in real fast to sign out the preschooler. MB had told me she's had to do this a few times and it was an option for me if the situation came up. But I didn't feel good about it and try my hardest to avoid it having to happen again.

I'm a MB and I disagree. I trust my nanny to treat my daughter as she would her own child, our nanny is like part of the family and with my daughter most of her day. If my nanny trusts someone enough that she would leave a child she cares about as much as a know my nanny cares about my daughter with, than I trust that decision. I know she would never put my baby in any situation that wasn't safe!

Mb has met my mom! And she also trusts my judgement 100%! I know she'd be fine with it absolutely! My mom has subbed for me and often hangs out with us!

I have very rarely and always with MB/DB's knowledge and approval of the person.

On the other hand I have watched nanny friend's charges occasionally for them as well. There have been a couple of families that I have even babysat for on a fairly regular basis.

Really, MB? That's what you want?

The point of hiring a professional nanny is that you can trust their judgement. Maybe you should try it.

There is one nanny that I have become friendly with from playgroups. I introduced her to MB and met her MB so both would be comfortable with either of us watching the other charge for 3 minutes for a bathroom break while out at play groups, library visits, etc. I would never leave a charge with any other friend or nanny without MB knowing about it, I don't feel that is my choice to make... I know MB trusts my judgement 100% but I would always feel more comfortable if she has met other nannies I am around on a regular basis. She seems to appreciate this too

Eh, I'm allowed to have my friends and sisters visit me at work whenever I want.

My sisters and a few of these friends have some level of childcare experience, so I can comfortably leave my charge in their care whenever I need to. Hek, I can even leave my charge with my little brother, lol.

I'm the same. Only to go to the bathroom.

There is one other occasion: last Thanksgiving, I took my charges home with me, because MB's niece died in a car wreck days before Thanksgiving, and the funeral was at the other end of the country over the holiday weekend. It was a very last-minute trip, so I didn't have time to plan or shop beforehand. When we got there, I put the kids to bed and had my mom watch the baby monitor while I ran to the store to buy food and toiletries I forgot to pack.

If a group of us are at a play date together one nanny might take the opportunity to run to the bathroom or something but we're never more than 30 seconds away from our charges.

Just curious if its normal to have a nanny friend care for your charges for you for a short period of time! I've read 2 things this morning about it! I've only ever left them once with my mom in the car when the coffee shop drive thru was too busy
