If she chooses not to travel, she waives pay for those days because she is the one choosing not to be available for work. Now if she travels with me and puts in extra hours, she gets extra pay. If she travels with me and stays in a hotel room with the kids while I am elsewhere, she gets an overnight fee.
We all value our time at home, OP. However, when travel is required, most of us do it without expecting or receiving extra pay beyond out of pocket expenses because it is part of our jobs.
Travel is not something that is a normal part of my job or in my contract, therefore I do expect compensation for it. I selected this position over others because I would not want to be on call for travel when I don't want to be.
