Also try calling the health department you may be able to get it there.

Mine was covered by insurance. I asked for it when I was in for something else. My employers offered to pay for it, but there was no need.

I forgot to get it before my charge was born, but got it shortly thereafter. I'm not advising waiting.

Your insurance might cover it, as the ACA requires coverage of certain adult vaccines, including the TDaP.

The parents will probably pay for it and be relieved that you aren't one of those crazy nannies who will not get it or worse takes the money and then doesn't get the shot. The vaccine will also be useful for you in future jobs. The higher end agencies require vaccinations and promote in their sales pitches that they screen out nannies who are not up-to-date on their vaccines.

If you are working with infants they say it is better to get it more often than every 10 years. The vaccine slowly weakens in your system, and after 2 years the pertussis vaccine is not that effective. It is ok still for those around older kids etc, but those that work in hospitals and with infants are recommended to get it every 1-2 years, to keep it going strong.

I just got mine about 4 weeks ago. I care for infant twins so it was important for me to get it. My bosses did not ask me to get it but I knew it was necessary considering the ages of the babies.

Oops! Thank you for pointing that out. The TDaP is $65.

MB here - any shots we ask nanny to get (flu, etc.) we totally pay for if not covered by her insurance, which we also pay for.

I had a reaction to it and was sick and had a very red and swollen arm for 2-3 days so if you can get it on a friday, that might not be a bad idea just in case. Also, adukts get the T-dap, not D-tap. Not sur eif that will affect the price quotes your're getting.

I would definitely pay for it! If it comes up, tell her that your insurance won't cover it and the cost.

PS... at the doctor's office, I believe my DH only paid something like $50. I could be wrong, but definitely ask your primary care how much they charge to do it.

If she wants you to get it, she should absolutely pay.

Have any nannies gotten this before working with a newborn?
MB is pregnant with #2, and although she hasn't asked me to get one, it might come up soon. (FWIW I'm fine with getting it, I get flu shots, I'm not anti-vaccine).

Follow up: I'm not sure if my insurance will cover it, and it's $100 at CVS minute clinic. If she wants me to get it, would it be inappropriate to ask for them to help me with the cost of it?
