OP, did you get paid when you took maternity leave? Maybe you saved up your PTO of 30 days and accumulated leave so you were paid. Sad, that nannies do not have this benefit because they only get, if they are lucky, 10 days off per yr.

It doesn't matter.....if she is already pregNant, it's too late for std. And it's an uncommon benefit in most workplaces. She also will likely be ineligible for unemployment, since she will be recovering from birth and thus not available for work. I think the best option is for baby's father to obtain a second job.

I think food stamps/WIC is going to be her best bet, but she might not qualify if income is too high w/ her pay since i think there is a lag from when you apply to when you get it (so once she gets 0 dollars from you should would not get it immediately).

I doubt you have short term disability insurance as a benefit since that would be really unusual. There really aren't many options. She needs to be saving up. It sucks but it's also reasonable as you mentioned that you have x amt of dollars to spend on childcare; if you have to now pay it to someone else to do her job for 2 months then you do not have it to pay to her.

If she qualifies, she can get food stamps/WIC.

Hi folks,

My nanny is pregnant and has asked for 2 months off, which we are happy to provide. Without that income coming in, her family of five will have some financial challenges, for sure. Does anyone have any experience with this? We unfortunately won't be able to provide her any compensation while she's off (we will be paying for a fill-in nanny). But do you have any knowledge of other income that can be pulled down for short term? Unemployment? Some other kind of public assistance? Thank you, we really appreciate your help!
