My nanny gets gifts on Valentine's Day, her birthday, nanniversary every five years, and Christmas. I get my mom and MIL gifts on Mother's Day. If my nanny was a mother, I'd get her a card.

I'm not quite sure how you mean this, but I see this as a good thing.. I definitely work as a team the parents. I spend more waking hours with their children than they do and they value and respect me as an influential figure in their children's lives. We completely work together and I am free to make decisions in the children's lives just as either parent would be able to make these decisions. So yes, I am very secure with myself as a nanny.

I love to hear this. It's exactly as it should be. Thanks for posting.

Nanny here, my MB gave me a card with a gift card to my favorite coffee place this morning for Mothers Day. I work with an amazing family and they definitely see me a a motherly figure to their children. I also got MB a card and made projects with the kids.... The last family I was with also gave me a treat for Mother's Day. And no, I do not have any children of my own. While I do not think it is necessary, I think it is really sweet that MB values me as a motherly figure to her kiddos. I definitely feel like part of the family, which is the perfect match for me as a nanny. I plan on being with this family for years to come and will always be in the children's life.

Totally agree, unless of course she is a mom also and you want to. I would feel sooo awkward if my employers gave me a Mother's Day gift.

I am a nanny and I think this is incredibly weird! I would feel uncomfortable if my MB gave me a Mother's Day gift. If she has her own children, a small gift card to a coffee shop or bakery that she enjoys.

She's not a parent so she's not getting a present from us.

My former mb gave me a gift card and card last year for Mother's Day. It was incredibly generous of her and all around she was/is an amazing MB and person. I would have loved to have known her in a different social setting as we could have been great friends.

I know lots of parents who consider their nanny to be very much of a co-parent.

I don't give my nanny gifts on Mother's Day. I give her gifts on her birthday and Christmas, or just for the heck of it if I feel like it. But I'm the mother. (Also, just FYI, mother's/father's day are family days in our house but not necessarily gift giving occasions - this differs by family.)

Regardless - the nanny is a nanny, not their mother. (Unless she has kids of her own and that's what you're recognizing.)

Why would you give your nanny a Mother's Day gift? She's not your mother, nor your kids' mother. Bad idea.

Cash is the ultimate generous gift for Nanny.
How thoughtful, OP.

What are you giving, or what would you like to receive?

Is cash considered rude?
