Men should keep to traditional careers. We all know that men are complete idiots when it comes to children. (didn't you see Daddy Daycare, or those commercials where the daddy can't handle a baby while mommy goes shopping?)

Remember women can do it all but men better know their place.

Why would that be? OP is a female and the girl's mom, but little girls need male role models and to see men in caregiving roles just as much as little boys do.

If you are already a father of two, then you will probably have no trouble finding a family.

I think in this day and age of young boys being molested, many families are a little squeamish of letting a strange male care for their children.

I would make sure that the manny would have something to do with the girl that they both enjoy, as with her being the younger of the 2, she will be the one that needs more interaction. If she is really into American Girl dolls etc, and wants someone that will play with them with her, then a manny that is not willing to do that will backfire on you. It won't always be stuff like arts and crafts or reading. It would definitely help if she is into sporty stuff as well, but can be fine if she is not, as long as he will do girly stuff with her.

The older son will probably want to do his own thing a bit more often, but would also enjoy someone to do more sporty things with while he is interacting with a caregiver.

I have a manny for my DD. He's great.

I'd just caution you to not say you want a manny to do the physical or sports stuff with your son, as that's sexist and sends the message to your daughter that being physical and doing sports are not activities for girls.

I worked with a manny in my last position. He was 1 of 4 caregivers (24 hour job) There were 3 children ages 11, 9 and 4, with the youngest being a girl.

This particular manny wasn't great, but I've met some mannies that were fantastic.

OP, you have guts that I would not have. Does your daughter really want a male person?

I'm a male nanny and think its a great idea. Just check references and do a background check.

I don't have any experience, but it seems to be an ideal situation. The stigma behind hiring a male is very unfortunate.

Sounds like a great idea (although you might consider a male au pair since your children are older?)

I am thinking about hiring a Manny. I have a 12 year old son and an 8 year old daughter. I know it's not very traditional, but it's what makes the most sense to me. My son would have someone to do the physical stuff with (sports) and my daughter would be able to have a positive male presence in her life (their father is not in the picture).

Has anyone else ever had a Manny? What are your thoughts/experiences?
