Wow I didn't realize any of this would sound fishy to anyone. I really am not trying to get anything over on them but with no insurance it sure would be nice if worker's comp did cover this. The family isn't hurting by any stretch of the imagination. They make a very nice living and I'm sure could afford the cost of a doctor's visit to have my knee looked at to determine the extent of injury. I wouldn't insist they pay for it but I don't see the harm in asking if they would at least pay for part of it. I would feel really badly if they fired me just for asking if they could help with the expense or if worker's comp would cover it. Obviously I don't have a terrible relationship with the family or I wouldn't have been here for so long. I don't understand anyone saying they would fire me for something like this.

To add to this, I have slipped a few times on ice in front of peoples homes. Yes it hurt and I was upset, but I would never ask someone to pay for my medical bills unless i was seriously hurt.

If the pain is still really bad, you might ask in the email, if they can come home early. You can also call up a few lawyers out of the phonebook, for any preliminary advice, if you need some.

WC is not location-specific. It applies if you are injured in the scope of your job duties. So, if your employers have WC, it would apply here. I don't think you should ask them to personally pay the bill if they didn't do anything wrong. But, mention it and they may offer. I would.

OP, go and have yourself checked by a doctor if the pain persists beyond tomorrow. I would also mention to the family today that you slipped and fell on their sidewalk, so that they are prepared for a follow-up conversation if necessary. You may be surprised, and your employer may offer to help of their own accord (though I would not expect it).

If the doctor says that you require treatment, ask for a written and detailed estimate for the services. You may also mention to your doctors' office that you are uninsured, as you may be eligible for federal, state or county assistance -- which the doctor's office might know of.

Present your employers with an estimate of your treatment costs if you cannot afford to pay them yourself, and ask if they could please help.

Be prepared for the worse. Also, they may help you initially with your costs, but decide that you are a liability in the long run that they cannot afford. So, worst case, prepare to look for a new job in the near future (though that would be horrible of your family to do).

Tell them what happened and you and you need to have it checked. Ask if they can cover the cost of the doctor. They might even have a doctor friend for you to see. Let them look into their own insurance coverage. What state are you in?

I was walking out to the car this morning to drop off the younger charge at preschool when I slid across the front walk in front of the driveway. I hit the ground very hard and my knee is killing me and my lower back hurts pretty bad as well. I am going to give it tonight and see how I feel but if my knee is still hurting really badly tomorrow then I may need to go have it looked at. I am pretty sure the family I work for has worker's comp. I do not have insurance and if I am going to have my knee looked at I would need the bill to be covered. Is it right to ask the family to pay for the bill or to ask them if they have worker's comp that will cover the bill? Does worker's comp even cover the front walkway or does it only cover inside of the home? If it doesn't cover more than just inside of the home should I be the one paying to have my knee looked at? The front walk was really wet and dirty from a recent rain so it wasn't the parents fault that I got hurt but it was on their property and without insurance it would be really hard for me to receive proper medical care. I don't want a bunch of money thrown at me. I just want the bill covered in the event that I need to go to the dr.
