I would try to work from home the rest of the week. Talk to the neighbor once they get home and, if they have no idea what you are talking about, I would fire her on the spot.

If you needed a warning, your nanny just fired a flare.

You people are insane.

OP you need to talk to your neighbor and then once more with your nanny before you decide to fire her. Certainly if she was giving him medication (even herbal supplements) without permission you're within your rights to fire her, but I have left things in virtually every room of the house I work in and I've never given any vitamins/medicines/supplements to a child - one week a few homeopathic teething remedies fell out of my purse and rolled under the changing table, and I didn't even know until I came back the following week and the parents had seen them and pulled them out for me. (I use them with one family but NOT the ones who found them - happily they trusted me and it was a nonissue.) I understand why you are concerned and think that is the correct response, but don't jump to any conclusions yet. It could just be an unfortunate coincidence (better sleeping).

Definitely a fire-able offense.

She isn't wrong that it old help, and sleep is very important or Hilda development, but no med or supplement should ever be given without parental instruction to do so!!!

Yeah, I think you should fire her. I agree with the other posters who say a child sleeps better for the nanny, my charges nap better for me than for their parents too. But if you actually found the med container in his room, that's impossible to overlook.

At first I thought you were just going to comment on the baby napping better for the nanny then for you. That's pretty normal. My SIL's nanny used the swing on high for naps and my SIL would not (she was trying crib training), so of course my nephew napped better for the nanny. My nanny extended all of DC's naps early on by holding DC whereas I was usually doing housework during naps, and so DC learned that long naps were expected with her. Nannies are good at encouraging good naps. It's part of the job. Babies sleep differently for different caregivers.

But finding the melatonin? That would be a firing offense for me. I don't want my nanny bringing in medication to my home, even if it is not administered. That's a zero tolerance issue.

My child has always been a horrible napper. I know she loves him. They play well together and she teaches him things. I also know how frustrating it is when you want a break and due to child not napping well, ou rarely get a break. I know she mentioned something about possibly giving him a melatonin drop she said it helps with his circadian Rhythm to better sleep. I told her to hold off until I do my own research. Well, I was cleaning up his room, rearranging, which is usually for her to do. I had decided to do it myself, and I find a glass bottle of melatonin. I asked her about it, she claimed she brought it work to give to this neighbor down the street who I know she has play stars with and who's child also does not nap well. Here's the thing, why was it in my son's room. Also. That same day his log book indicated he slept longer then usual, but lately he has been sleeping Better. I'm upset she medicated him without my permission. I am waiting for neighbor to get back from vacation to ask her!! Just really annoyed.
