OP, I think it's more than fair to raise your rate by a dollar. Especially if you haven't received a raise anytime recently, since you've been there for 2 years already.

OP is here. I didn't say i want to make the same amount of money. ( I will search for other part time job) I know i will make less. But I thought it would be fair if they would raise my hourly rate about 1$.

It sounds like you need to tell them you need to make $x/wk. Would that work out to 40 hours at your old rate? Or only 45 hours? I can't see anyone agreeing to cut your hours to 35 and still pay the same amount they paid before for 45 hours ...

OP it sounds like you don't really need to hear us say what we think is reasonable - you know what will and will not work for you. If the hours they are offering you will only work if you make $X/hr, tell them so. If they can't or aren't willing to pay your required rate, you'll need to find something else - either by doing 25 hr/wk with this family and supplementing with another PT job or by finding a new FT job. Typically this is what happens when the youngest starts school, so it would have no negative bearing on your reference or resume to move on at this point. Good luck.

I would just figure out what you need. If you feel like you could make 35 work at X rate, tell them so. If you are willing to look for another job to supplement the 25 hour schedule, then lookfor one and offer Y rate (slightly higher but probably not as high as 35 hour week).

OP is here. I work 45 hours now. I can't really afford to cut my hours at that rate. I worked for that hourly rate because it was full time. Even when i see job offers in this line of work ( Wal-Mart is like comparing apple to orange) at agencies they offer higher hourly rate for part time jobs. I really love the kids. But if i go with the 35 hours i will have really hard time to find anything else because they take up the middle of my day.

Seriously, PP? Your model for reasonable and fair employment is Wal-Mart? For real?

Anyway, OP, there are two main reasons for part-time pay:
1) attract career nannies whi will be reliable
2) avoid having to find someone new when the nanny finds a full-time position

How many hours do you work now? Will you be looking for another job to supplement, or will you be cutting back expenses to make do?

I think that it doesn't matter whether you are part-time or full-time, they probably intend on paying you the same hourly rate.

I know some people think part-time work should be paid more since it is less hours, but I don't think this adds up in the real world.

For example at Wal~mart.....The part-timers do not make more per hr than the full-timers just because they work less hours.

I have a question. I work in New Jersey. I work for the same family for almost 2 years. They have 3 kids. The youngest one goes to kindergarten in the fall. They want to keep me for part time. They gave me plan "A" and plan "B". Right now I'm paid on the book. $15.50/h. Plan A is 35 hours/ week. Plan B is 25hours/week. I have college degree in education. I work as a nanny for 14 years now. Please help me what is the reasonable rate to ask per hour for those plans. It was so long ago when i worked part time. What could be reasonable? Thank you.
