Remember: You are not really obligated or even expected to give your boss a gift. It can be seen as trying to "kiss butt."

If you view her as your true friend, and want to give her a little something why not something homemade from you and the kids?

If you buy her something expensive, she will most likely feel uncomfortable.
Do not offer to baby~sit for free. That is like telling your boss you will work for free on his birthday. It just isn't done.

A nice craft would be a pic of the kids in a homemade picture frame saying, "Happy Birthday!!" Or maybe a personalized photo album w/the kids doing fun things or sharing a special milestone.

Whatever you choose, it is best to put thought over cost into your unique gift!!

Have fun and good luck OP!

I agree w/ the others. I'm an MB and when my nanny buys me gifts I always feel uncomfortable. But a picnic w/ the kids, or flowers, or a fun excursion we can all do together are great ideas.

You could plan a fun activity that she can do w/ her kids and document it w/ pictures. Or you can try to teach the kids something (b'day song or dance or something like that) to perform for her.

Flowers and a card is perfect.

Just give her flowers that the kids help you pick out, with a card from all of you.

I don't want any sort of big gift from my nanny.

If you know her work schedule, why not pack a picnic lunch for her and the kids?
You could do something extra around the house or errands wise while they have a nice lunch together?

Here's my situation, MB's bday is in 3 weeks but I want to plan ahead.

She works from home.
^so I see her everyday, talk with her frequently, and even consider her a friend.
I've been with their family for 4 years this month.
I work with two children (4 & 2) and care for both FT.
She isn't big on material possessions (and those she does like/have, I'd never be able to pick out!)
Her husband and her do not go out frequently...when I've offered free date night as part of a gift they've never taken me up on it.

I just don't know what I can do! In the past I've done pics of the kids when we're out or cute pics I've caught when I'm there. I've also done gift certificates for restaurants. But I want something new, but just can't think of a thing!

Anyone have anything fun, creative, or unique?

Oh and baking is out...they eat gluten free and aren't really big on baked goods.
