Thanks OP....PP here who asked about the other posts. I'm glad you sat down and talked to them vs a letter. That said, I really do think it is probably best to find another position. With all 3 posts, it just sounds like you and your bosses will never reach a policy that you are all happy with.

I have started looking actually been looking for a while. My plan was to stick it out and this position until I got my license and could attract better position. This job pays well and takes out taxes but that's about it.

OP you make perfect sense. 30 hours, though not "full time" is still a significant portion of your schedule each week. They either need to pay you salaried (and you can work out some kind of banking situation for excessive unused hours), or you need to be strictly hourly-a use it or lose it situation for them. Banking plus hourly is just insulting. Better yet, as most posters have suggested, start looking for a position that you will actually feel valued at.

I feel like the days I'm scheduled to work should be paid no matter what. I think it's fair that I'm not nickeled and dimed every time something comes up. I've watched them spend thousands on a new tv, a hot tub, new furniture and etc but yet they don't wanna pay me or the days they have me set aside to work. With no compensation package what so ever. To me that's bull.

I'm an MB and believe strongly in guaranteed hrs as a very important tool to retaining a nanny long-term. It simply makes sense to me, BUT i am salaried. If I only got paid when I clocked hours then I likely would need to find a nanny that was about to match that. The downside though has to be that the nanny would sometimes not be available to work if she can't count on regular hours with you.
It may just not be a good fit with this family, OP, since I think people that work on contract have a harder time understanding that they are paying for a "slot" in your schedule the same way they would if they used daycare.

It's going to be hard for people to advise you without knowing your needs and circumstances.
30 hours a week is substantial, so it makes sense that you'd need to depend on those hours. Personally I would require those hours to be guaranteed or I'd begin looking for a new job. If that isn't the direction you want to head, you could propose a compromise like - you're paid for 30 hours each week and if they don't use you some of that time you'll reschedule up to half of the hours for another time (date night?) but at no point can you owe them more than 10 hours of work. It really is going to vary from nanny to nanny (and family to family) so you'll just need to think creatively about your needs and how these folks can meet them.
