Or maybe asking a higher hourly wage?

OP here, I will be up for a raise after 6 months, so that will be good. Just sticker shock looking at all of the deductions. I did get an itemized list of deductions and its all correct, just seems like so much after working my last 2 jobs off the books. It really an amazing job so I would love to be with this family for years and I know they would like to expand their family (and my salery) in the near future. It will all be good!
thanks everyone!

Taxes are usually about 25-30 percent of your pay, so it sounds right. Use a nanny tax calculator if you are concerned.

Like PP said, ask for an itemization of deductions, but also try out some withholding calculators online (http://www.dinkytown.net/java/PayrollHourly.html) to make sure you know going into that discussion whether it's close to what you expected or way off base.

Ask your employers for an itemization of the deductions.

Hi there,
I am paid $17 an hour and only taking home $13.50 an hour after taxes are withheld. I claimed to have the smallest amount taken out possible. This seams like a lot. I have to admit the last couple of job I have had were under the table, so I am just in tax shock maybe...
